B, Pentecost 9 2009, Eat your Cake and have it too

Posted by friarpuk on 4th August 2009

Sermon: Eat your Cake and have it too/ Text: John 6:27/ Preaching Date: 02/8/09, Pentecost 9 Proper 13 (Year B)/ Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia

Focus: When we desire something it can lead us to covet with our minds and hearts, and sometimes it leads to sin with our mouths and actions.  King David desired Bathsheba and it led him to falling deep into sin.  When our desires are fulfilled, the feelings associated with the desire disappear along with the yearning desire.  In this way one can’t eat their cake and have it too.  The desire just doesn’t stick around.  But when we desire Christ and are satisfied, we can eat this “Divine Cake” of desire and still continue to have it.  Such is the eternal nature of God given desires of faith and hope, and their fulfilment in eternal love.  Grace Mercy & Peace. B, Pentecost 7 2009, Peace in the Shed

Posted by friarpuk on 21st July 2009

Sermon: Peace in the Shed/ Text: 2 Samuel: 7:10a, 11b-13, 16; Mark 6:31/ Preaching Date: 19/7/09, Pentecost 7 Proper 11 (Year B)/ Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia

Focus: We all need peace and rest.  Many of us blokes like to retire to our sheds, some don’t!  Women also have their favourite resting places of peace.  But no matter where we seek our temporary peaceful resting places, God offers us a place of eternal peace and rest.  We can rest in Christ, his word, his forgiveness, his promise to never leave us or forsake us as our Immanuel.  Ironically though, as we rest in him, he rests in us!  He temples in us!  We are his shed!  Grace Mercy & Peace.
