But in reality we have no control over any of these let alone ourselves. Even those who have popularity find themselves lonely, the wealthy fine themselves poor, and those seeking time never have enough. Focus: When we desire something it can lead us to covet with our minds and hearts, and sometimes it leads to sin with our mouths and actions. King David desired Bathsheba and it led him to falling deep into sin. When our desires are fulfilled, the feelings associated with the desire disappear along with the yearning desire. In this way one can’t eat their cake and have it too. The desire just doesn’t stick around. But when we desire Christ and are satisfied, we can eat this “Divine Cake” of desire and still continue to have it. We can rest in Christ, his word, his forgiveness, his promise to never leave us or forsake us as our Immanuel. Ironically though, as we rest in him, he rests in us! He temples in us! We are his shed!
