Hi folks! The sooner we realise it's all obout the Holy Spirit and not us, the better the church will function, and our struggles will be seen to glorify God.

Sermon: Absorbing God/ Text: Isaiah 5:1-7/ Preaching Date: 02/10/2011, Post-Pentecost 16 Proper 22 (Year A)/ Location:Trinity Lutheran Church Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: Just like a plant absorbs water through osmosis, God's will is for us to absorb him in his word, by being rooted in Christ, and growing to produce fruit in our lives. We may bear the fruit but it's really God's fruit when we allow him together with the Son and the Holy Spirit to give us grace and faith which grows us in salvation and friut. Grace Mercy & Peace. Focus: It's an interesting exercise to see who we are in the Jonah story. Who do you think you are in it? Who do we need to be in this story so we might receive the generosity of the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Not Just 9-11 But 24-7/ Text: Genesis 50:15-21/ Preaching Date: 11/09/2011, Post-Pentecost 13 Proper 19 (Year A)/ Location:St Stephen's Lutheran Church Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: President George W. Bush made a statement on the day the World Trade Centre came tumbling down that together with the terrorist event marks the refusal of Post Modernist thinking that "their's no evil" and "what's good for you is good for you and what's good for me is good for me". But right judgement before God reveals evil is in the world and there is in fact the need for all of us to be delivered from evil. Both from ourselves and from others. The events of 9-11 show we need the victory won at Calvary 24-7. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Binding & Loosing/ Text: Matthew 18:15-20/ Preaching Date: 04/09/2011, Post-Pentecost 12 Proper 18 (Year A)/ Location:Trinity Lutheran Church Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: All this loosing and unloosing can leave a person all bound up in knots! But it's important that we have the right things loosed and wrong things bound. Therefore, we can forgive or loose sinners so we all might be bound to heaven through Christ's death and resurrection, yet still name sin so it can be bound to the cross. Grace Mercy & Peace. Sermon: The Scandal of the Cross/ Text: Matthew 16:24/ Preaching Date: 28/08/2011, Post-Pentecost 11 Proper 17 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: The world seeks to sanitise the cross. But the cross is a scandal and it exposes the scandal in all of us. But even greater, this scandal also frees us from the scandalous lives and the horrors of ourselves we seek to hide... if we allow Jesus to deal with us. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: On This Rock/ Text: Matthew 16:13-18/ Preaching Date: 21/08/2011, Post-Pentecost 10 Proper 16 (Year A) /Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: Christ proclaimed Peter to be the rock on which the church was to be built. But Peter was seen to constantly fail due to his human nature. Despite his nature though, Peter allowed Jesus access to mould him with his word together with the Holy Spirit so he might be the rock of the church through continual repentance and forgiving reinstatement. Jesus seeks to do the same with you and me too! Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Mercy for Sinners/ Text: Romans 11:29-32/ Preaching Date: 14/08/2011, Post-Pentecost 9 Proper 15 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: Measuring faith is a fruitless exercise. In fact seeking to measure faith is a faithless exercise. God gives his gifts, of which faith is one, and these gifts are irrevocable. So you have faith given when you hear the gospel preached - believe it and let it do what the Holy Spirit intends it to do! Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Practising Faith/ Text: Romans 10:13-15, 17/ Preaching Date: 07/08/2011, Post-Pentecost 8 Proper 14 (Year A) /Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: Faith is given when we hear the word of God preached, namely Christ crucified and risen from the grave in victory over our sin. The Holy Spirit gives faith when Christ is preached from his word. Faith leads us to God and glorifies him! Therefore faith is moulded by our worship life rather than our faith moulding our worship life. When we put individualistic faith first it is not the one true faith, and therefore we end up worshipping ourselves and not God. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Real Rest/ Text: Isaiah 55:2-3 Psalm 145:8-9/ Preaching Date: 31/07/2011, Post-Pentecost 7 Proper 13 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: In this age we all yearn for rest. We seem to be chronic time wasters. Yet once we have opportunity to rest, we are not rested at its completion. True rest comes not from what we do, but real rest comes when we allow ourselves to stop and let God do with us what he needs to do. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Wisdom From God/ Text: 1 Kings 3:5-12, 16-28/ Preaching Date: 24/07/2011, Post-Pentecost 6 Proper 12 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: We just don't get wisdom like Solomon but we get the perfection of wisdom, Jesus Christ, in our baptism, when we are weak. Your wisdom only remains as long as you look to God as the source of that wisdom and the product of his wisdom in you gives glory to him. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Wheat & Weeds/ Text: Romans 7:15-25a; Matthew 13:24-30/ Preaching Date: 17/07/2011, Post-Pentecost 5 Proper 11 (Year A) /Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: Sorting the wheat from the weeds is not so much about us from them but rather allowing God to sort our our sinful nature from our new nature in Christ, so we might believe we are sinners in nature and in deed, but also trust God to be the God of redemption over our sinful natures. The weeds will only be fully removed on the last day. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: He Who Has Ears/ Text: Matthew 13:9, Isaiah 55:10-11/ Preaching Date: 10/07/2011, Post-Pentecost 4 Proper 10 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: The ear is the organ of faith, and if we cut our ears off from hearing the word, we cut ourselves off from faith. When we hear the Word of God the Holy Spirit tills the heart and makes us rich soil to the glory of God. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: It Croaks and then it Croaks/ Text: Romans 7:15-25a; Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30/ Preaching Date: 03/07/2011, Post-Pentecost 3 Proper 9 (Year A) /Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: This sermon begins with the story of a little frog with an unusual call, "yeah-but yeah-but". But this little frog croaks doubt within humans. And the problem with that is it can croak so loud we no longer hear the word of God. When we fail to hear the word of God we end up spiritually and eternally dying, or "croaking it". This croaking and the threat of croaking it makes one weary. Therefore, Jesus calls all to come and rest in him. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: God With You/ Text: Matthew 28:16-20; 2 Corinthians 13:11-14/ Preaching Date: 19/06/2011, Trinity Sunday (Year A) /Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: Church lingo is full of jargon. We do well to pull apart this jargon so we know what it is we believe and so we can tell others about Jesus without the jargon. But when we tell others it's best to tell them the primary focus of the Gospel and that is God is with us, and it's his work that's the samefor all of us. This is a whole lot easier than trying to explain what his work means or how one might experience it in themselves, which can be different for every person. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: On Fire/ Text: Acts 2:1-21/ Preaching Date: 12/06/2011, Pentecost Sunday (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: When things go well we often feel alive and "as it were" on fire. It seems we can conquer the world! But this fire never lasts, it burns out, sometimes leaving us a shell of a person. However, the Holy Spirit has a fire that rids us of dead wood, and given opportunity, he gives us a burning passion to remain under the grace of Jesus Christ. And in Christ streams of living water will flow from our lives to serve others and glorify God. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Religious Men/ Text: Acts 17:16-31/ Preaching Date: 29/04/2011, Easter 6 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: Paul was caused to sit around and wait for Silas and Timothy to join him in Athens. Being still and knowing God agitated Paul in amonst the pagan gods he observed and he found himself addressing the philosophers on the Areopagus in the mission of the Gospel. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: A Stone Like Stephen/Text: Acts 7:54-60; 1 Peter 2:2-10/Preaching Date: 22/04/2011, Easter 5 (Year A) /Location: St Stephen's Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: Stephen was the first martyr in the church. He was stoned to death. Yet while he was on trial and being stoned he "gazed" upon God and the Kingdom of Heaven. For him to be able to do this, rather than focus on his beating, is a testament to the Holy Spirit whose power allowed him to remain focused on his eternal reality as he endured death. Focus: We as human beings are full of worry, doubt, and self-centred pride. This makes it impossible for us to see God in this state. But thanks to God and his word we are drawn out of ourselves by the Holy Spirit to see Jesus, even though he is not seen physically but through faith. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk
