Sermon: Reformation Lamination/ Text: Romans 3:20-24, 27-28/ Preaching Date: 25/10/09, Commemoration of the Reformation (Year B)/ Location: St Stephens Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia / Focus: Once upon a time windscreens on vehicles shattered when hit by a stone, today thankfully they are laminated to stop them shattering. Instead one is just left with a star on the glass. Similarly today Christians are laminated to Christ and his grace so that when the law strikes it no longer shatters us but allows us to give glory to our Saviour who saves us through his lamination to us through his death and resurrection in our baptism! Sermon: Expectations/ Text: Mark 8:27-38/ Preaching Date: 16/9/09, Pentecost 15 Proper 19 (Year B)/ Location: St Stephens Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: For many people today, expectations of church are not being met! Are you one of them? But perhaps it’s better if we ponder if our expectations are the same as God’s expectations! What is God’s expectations of church and you? Asking ourselves this question in the light of Christ and his word, shows us how much we really do fall short every day, and therefore continues to make know just how much we need Christ and his forgiveness in our lives every day. Sermon: Which Crucifix/ Text: James 1:17-18, 21-25/ Preaching Date: 30/8/09, Pentecost 13 Proper 17 (Year B)/ Location: St Stephens Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: Did you know there are two crucifixes which appear in the Christian Church? They are told apart by the body that appears on the cross. One has the broken body of Christ from Good Friday, and the other has the glorified body of our risen Lord, Christ the King! For us they can represent the two themes present in God’s word. The Law which sends us to the cross and the Gospel which enables us to stand with Christ in victory over death. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Paper, Scissors, Rock/ Text: John 6:63/ Preaching Date: 23/8/09, Pentecost 12 Proper 16(Year B)/ Location: Katanning-Narrogin Parish Service, at Wagin, Western Australia
Focus: To see who goes first, to see who gets the best, kids can play “Paper, Scissors, Rock”. Unfortunately many grow into adults thinking they can juggle another three things to make themselves strong, namely popularity, wealth, and time. But in reality we have no control over any of these let alone ourselves. Even those who have popularity find themselves lonely, the wealthy fine themselves poor, and those seeking time never have enough. We are therefore called not to trust the flesh or anything that perishes, rather we are called to trust in Jesus Chirst. From whom we receive the Spirit and life! Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Shaken not Stirred/ Text:Ephesians 4:25-5:2/ Preaching Date: 09/8/09, Pentecost 10 Proper 14 (Year B)/ Location: St Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Katanning, Western Australia
Focus: Many people inside and outside the church believe it’s a sin if Christians get angry. But we’re told in Scripture, in our anger do not sin. So we can be angry without actually sinning. The question we must ask ourselves in determining what our anger is actually doing is this: Is our anger glorifying God or someone/thing else? Hear more below… Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Sermon: Eat your Cake and have it too/ Text: John 6:27/ Preaching Date: 02/8/09, Pentecost 9 Proper 13 (Year B)/ Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, Narrogin, Western Australia
Focus: When we desire something it can lead us to covet with our minds and hearts, and sometimes it leads to sin with our mouths and actions. King David desired Bathsheba and it led him to falling deep into sin. When our desires are fulfilled, the feelings associated with the desire disappear along with the yearning desire. In this way one can’t eat their cake and have it too. The desire just doesn’t stick around. But when we desire Christ and are satisfied, we can eat this “Divine Cake” of desire and still continue to have it. Such is the eternal nature of God given desires of faith and hope, and their fulfilment in eternal love. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Focus: When we sit in Church we sit in God’s presence. When we sit we sit in God’s holy rest. God sits us down, forgives us and feeds us. This is the place of true rest, true peace, which surpasses all human understanding. This is what the world needs and craves for yet looks for in all the wrong places. Grace Mercy & Peace. Friarpuk

Focus: Jesus is the same as us but he is different. We like being the same as others but we always seek to be different and vice versa.
